The Sandwich that Brings You out for Hiking
People always say that food can bring up memories; it sure does. If there is a food that associates with a short hiking trip, it will be the pork belly and egg sandwich. It’s a wonderful treat when you are in the mountain or at a middle of a hike, sitting on the ground, enjoy it with a bottle of hot americano in the thermos, it couldn’t be more perfect.
After several times I prepared pork belly and egg sandwich as lunch for a hiking trip, it kind of programming in the body that force you want to have it again when making food for the short hiking and vise versa. Food in this way, become a vehicle that travels you to a specific time and place.
Recently, it rained a lot in San Francisco, not the perfect weather to go hiking, but it’s pretty good to have a pork belly sandwich to bring up the mindset.
如果食物有連結情境的能力,肉蛋三明治大概是一個能把心情帶出去健行的食物。最近幾次跟朋友去郊外健行,幫忙準備的午餐就是這種夾肉夾蛋的土司三明治,之後想到出遊健行就會想到吃肉蛋土司,反之亦然。
分別把吐司兩面煎的焦脆,視喜好塗上抹醬,肉片跟雞蛋煎熟分開處理,組裝後對切盒裝就可以帶著走。搭配保溫瓶裡的熱美式,就是之後冷掉也好吃的野餐食物。
身體跟胃好想很容易把食物跟特定的情境連在一起,變成一種制約式的儀式。這種莫名跟食物連起的習慣有好多好多,就像在旅館裡想要吃泡麵,或是開車旅行就想吃平常不會買的零食。反過來說,這些特定的食物就變成了某種時空的旅行膠囊,吃下去就能再感受一次美好的片面。
